Guatemala's Green Coffee Exports

Apr 05, 2011 (Dow Jones Commodities News via Comtex) -- DOW JONES NEWSWIRES

Guatemala's coffee exports in March were 453,572 bags of 60 kilograms each, down 6% from the same month last year, said the Guatemalan Coffee Association, or Anacafe.
The month's figure brings the total so far this season to 1.43 million bags, down 3% from the 2009-2010 cycle. The coffee season runs from October through the following September.
Coffee officials in Guatemala, the top producer of coffee in Central America, remain optimistic about the 2010-2011 harvest.
Last season, Guatemala exported 3.44 million bags of coffee. During the current cycle, Guatemala is expected to export slightly more than that.
"The harvests of Guatemala are extremely stable," said Thomas Nottebohm, head of the Guatemalan Coffee Exporter Association.
Coffee farms on the country's Pacific coast, where the harvest starts first, saw a 30-40% drop in output due to excess rainfall this season, but coffee officials say good production elsewhere in the country will make up for the shortfall there.
